Day 17 - The Connection between Mouth and Heart

Mouth--->?<---Heart

What is the missing link between mouth and heart? Power.

Heart
Everything begins from the heart. What is inside your heart dictates what you say or do. If you do not like a person then no matter what he or she does you will always find it hard. Similarly, if you love a person then every single thing will be very much loved by you. Your mum would not stop nourishing you even though you dislike her cooking. Your dad would not stop paying your school fees even though you failed. Our God will not stop loving us even though we sin. In fact, He will continue to love us even though we do not love Him. Yes, it is true! Unconditional. So what is in your heart, whether it is love or hate, it shows in the way you see a person. This then translates into how you treat and speak to the person.

Mouth
How often do we forgot how important our mouth is? Besides eating -_- , Pastor Rick was reminding us about the importance of words. President Obama reminded his critique in the last presidential election in the following words:
"Don't tell me words don't matter. 'I have a dream'. Just words. 'All man are created equal'. Just words. 'We have nothing to fear but fear itself'. Just words, just speeches. It's true that speeches alone don't solve all problem but it's also true that if we could not inspire the country to believe again then it does not matter how many policies and plans we have".
Now words are really important. Without words, the world would not be spoken into motion. Without words, Adam would not have sinned. Without words, Jesus could not have passed on His teachings. Without words, the bible could not be written! Without words, the bible could not be preached to the four corners of the world! We possessed one of the most powerful tool, Words. With this God given ability, we can either make or destroy.

Heart & Mouth
Sometimes we might get hurt by the things that other people say and in turn we might want to lash out at others. But what we don't realize is that by inflicting hurt on others, we actually cause more damage to ourselves. How? When we say or think of saying hurtful things, it will bring about bitterness in our hearts and sometimes even the self righteous feeling that for whatever reason, we have the 'right' to hurt them. Then after you hurt someone with words, at first, there could be a sense of release but after that, guilt can seep in. You battle with yourself, coming up with excuses trying to justify what you said but that's all they are; excuses and guilt takes over. So in the end, the one who's left with the deeper wound is ourselves.

The ideal connection is to have the right mouth and the right heart. The right heart is to love God and to love His people. The key to having the right mouth is to be 'generous'. Yes, be generous in encouraging, be generous in praising, be generous in sharing testimonies, be generous in worshiping God. Our God is a generous God. He is so generous in His words that some people took more than 22 years to finish reading His words. Let alone understanding it!

What will happen if we combine the right mouth and the right heart together? Greatness.

Jesus came with a right heart and a right mouth and He left a legacy unparalleled to all times. Ask yourself what did you learn from Him today?
